Found Money: Innovative Ways to Find Money You Never Knew You Had

Have you ever reached into your closet and put on the jacket you wore last winter only to find some cash in the pocket? When you found money - even though it was yours to begin with - it is a great feeling. After all, it was money you hadn't planned on having and you didn't even notice missing. What could be better? Well, if you love the way it feels when you find money, you will be quite interested in these innovative ways to find money you never knew you had.

1) You may not realize it, but you could still have money sitting in an old bank account. Think back to all of the accounts that you have had opened in the past and inquire within them. You might be surprised to find that you still have some cash in the account that you completely forgot about. While you are at it, check into mutual funds, stocks, dividends, and stocks.

2) You might also be able to find money in insurance policies. Check under your name as well as under the names of deceased relatives. It is possible that one of these relatives had you listed as a beneficiary and you were not contacted at the time of death.

3) Many people are surprised to learn that they still have unclaimed money coming to them from their past employers. Check in with these businesses to see if they still have money belonging to you. You just might have another paycheck out their waiting to be claimed.

4) Whenever you open an account with a utility company, such as gas, electric, and telephone, you need to make a security deposit. When you close the account and move, you may inadvertently leave the money behind. Therefore, past utility companies can provide you with another way to find money you never knew you had.

5) If you do have money out their waiting to be claimed, you might hit a dead end if you go directly to the banks, insurance companies, or past employers. This is partly because it can be difficult to remember all of the places you have done business with. And, in the case of insurance policies, you have no real way of knowing where a loved one may have had a policy. Furthermore, many companies only hang onto unclaimed money for a short period of time before they send the money off to the government under your name. But, the government doesn't work toward finding you. Rather, they hang onto the cash and wait for you to come to them.

Many states have databases available to help you find money that may be rightfully yours. Therefore, you should perform an Internet search in order to find one of these databases and look up your name - you just might be surprised by what you find!
